Peggy O'Connell is a candidate to serve as a judge on the Illinois Third District Appellate Court. She has over 20 years of legal experience in both the private and public sectors, and she is dedicated to fairness, ethics, and the rule of law.
In 2020, Peggy was the first woman and the first Democrat to be elected to serve as a Circuit Court Judge. She is currently the presiding judge of the Felony Division of DuPage County. She has also been appointed to the Illinois Courts Commission as an alternate member.
Judge O'Connell has extensive experience in multiple areas of the law. She has represented clients in family law matters, civil litigation, and criminal defense cases, and she has served as a Guardian ad Litem in multiple Illinois counties. She previously served as a State's Attorney in DuPage County, and she worked for the Illinois Attorney General's Office as a Senior Assistant Attorney General.
Peggy has experience handling cases in federal courts, the Illinois Appellate Court, and the Illinois Supreme Court. She also served as a delegate for the Illinois Attorney General on the Committee on Abuse, Neglect, and Financial Exploitation of the Elderly and Persons With Disability. She has also worked to mentor young attorneys and provide volunteer legal aid services.
